THE IMAGINARY INVALID. Director Silviu Purcarete

One of the most awaited events of the Moscow theatre season – an outstanding European director Silviu Purcarete is invited to the Vakhtangov Theatre, one of the county’s best theatres with one of the most improvisational actor crews, open to stage experiments.

The comedy in this performance often turns into farce scenes, but it is not street farce, but royal farce. Ballet intermezzo which remind us more of Brecht than of Palais Royal Court Theatre go hand in hand with Moliere’s personal drama, as the great playwright died on stage, playing the Imaginary Invalid. This is a performance not only about human vices, but about the art of theatre itself, about the sacrifice each artist is to bring.
