MEDEA. MATERIAL. Director Rustem Begenov

A technogenic mystery for 16 fashion models, 6 musicians, 4 screens, 3 cameras and two voices at the interface of theatre, performance, contemporary chamber music and automatic ballet. Based on Medeamaterial by Heiner Muller and «AZ i IA» by Olzhas Suleimenov.

The performance became the first ever staging of Heiner Muller’s texts in Kazakhstan and is close to landescape music theatre, where music, machinery, body, scengraphy, costumes and text are equal in the relationships and presence. And, in this new technological and sterile world, that has no longer hierarchy between things and consciousness and have admitted its own fragmentarity, — where is the place for human being and what is the apex of creation? What are the criteria for women’s beauty? What if the world stuck on the shores of new life and the transition would have never been accomplished, the ritual would have not been finished, the redemption would have not taken place?

Rustem Begenov — director, producer, founder and artistic director of ORTA. The apprentice of Boris Yukhananov. Worked in Electrotheatre Stanislavsky as the assitant director to Heiner Goebbels (performance «Max Black or 62 ways of supporting a head with a hand»), Romeo Castellucci (performance «Human use of human beings»), Theodoros Terzopoulos (performance «Bacchae»).

The music is composed by Sanzhar Baiterekov and performed by Eegeru Ensemble — the first kazakhstani contemporary music ensemble. The scenography is designed by well-known kazakhstani cinema set designer Yulia Levitskaya and carried out by Artdepartment.kz. The costumes are created by talented designer and participant of Kazakhstan Fashion Week Aidana Kozhageldina. The performers are professional models from the conceptual modelling agencyEat Models.
