Alexander Belousov's chamber opera is a musical and philosophical reflection on an updated idea of Spinoza concerning the need of a voluntary union of people on the basis of reason and common good. The title of this two-act opera carries in itself an idea of acquiring knowledge by way of mania, or obsession, whatever form that may take. In his new piece Maniosis Alexander Belousov — experienced in experimental electronics — fulfills this specific way of feeling time. He makes music out of texts that we hear in four different languages (including one which is invented).
