The Counsellor consists of several visits to a mysterious master to whom people turn for advice. A mysterious master who wants to help people without receiving any payment is an attentive listener who asks direct questions and does his best in delivering advice. He is a combination of a psychotherapist, interrogator, confessor, philosopher, artist... Korun is a brilliant observer of Slovenian and global social reality. He addresses major, eternal issues as well as minor peculiarities and habits of today. He asks
questions about the meaning of life, moral and ethical dilemmas, human identity, death, love, sexuality,
reason, stupidity, faith, ideologies ... His criticism of the present and past politics is humorous as well as
sharp. He is witty in describing the anxieties of the modern man and his tendencies for seeking instant
and simple solutions. Those who turn to Korun’s counsellor also include uneducated parvenus without
any understanding of art... Who is the counsellor? Why do we come to him? And where are we, after all? A surprising turn unveils brand new images, new understandings, new criteria, new essence... “To dive into the unknown, into something exciting... in an instant, this is what theatre is about!” says Korun. He calls theatre rehearsals dreams; text analysis is like psychoanalysis to him. So who is the counsellor? What
is his role? What can be expected of him?
Mile Korun is known as a multi-faceted artist: director, author of adaptations, theoretician, set and
costume designer, and professor at the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television. In the autumn
of 2016, this giant of Slovenian theatre will make his debut as a playwright.
