In Russian classical literature is terribly unlucky: it is imprisoned in schools, in the state curriculum, and is favorite material for youth theatres. But in the second half of the XIX century, when “The Ordinary Story” was published, it was one of the most polemical and vivid novels, the most talked about, it caused the same sharp discussions, as those that are currently taking place around books by Vladimir Sorokin and Zahar Prilepin - in short, it had a strong impact on literature as a whole. I would like our production to be up to this level of polemical sharpness.
